Incumbent Mayor David Coss has collected campaign contributions for his re-election bid equal to nearly six times his annual salary as mayor.

Campaign finance reports filed Monday show Coss outspending his nearest rival, Asenath Kepler, by about $100,000. Today is election day.

With $170,309 collected so far, Coss' campaign war-chest is the largest in city election history. Big contributions to the incumbent this reporting period include $5,000 from Andrew and Sydney Davis and $2,000 from former city prosecutor Art Michael.

Kepler reported $71,272, including $2,000 from the Republican Party of Santa Fe County, while a third candidate, City Councilor Miguel Chavez, raised $15,110.

The mayor's salary is $29,450.

A post-election report that will reflect last-minute donations is due at the City Clerk's Office on March 16.

In the race for a city council seat in the north-side District 1, incumbent Councilor Chris Calvert reported raising $20,064, just under double what Russell Simon raised to challenge him, while Doug Nava collected only a fraction of that amount.

In District 2, which includes the historic east side, incumbent Councilor Rebecca Wurzburger racked up $30,008 and challenger Stefanie Beninato collected $1,590.

Councilors Carmichael Dominguez, District 3, and Ronald Trujillo, District 4, face no opponent.

Candidates reported the following cash contributions were received between Feb. 23 and Feb. 28 in contested races for the March 2 municipal election.
