A new company with a new approach to roofing is what RoofCARE's Northern New Mexico branch is all about.

The business, which is based in Albuquerque, has an office at the Santa Fe Business Incubator.

Rather than replacing old roofs, "our focus is to extend the life of existing roofs using various means," said Arnold DeAguero, manager of the Santa Fe office.

"Using the right materials and preparing the repair is the most important part of the whole job."

RoofCARE concentrates on commercial work, including schools, government buildings, medical facilities and other large facilities.

"We do some residential work but not that much," DeAguero said.

On the not-so-great news side of things, Schott Solar CSP Inc., a German company, has suspended one of its two concentrated solar power production lines in Albuquerque "due to the slow growth of North American market and a slowdown in the Spanish market," a company statement said.

That means a loss of 30 temporary jobs.

The company said the production of photovoltaic modules in Albuquerque is not impacted by the layoffs.
