Comments sought on draft fire plan
Santa Fe County and SWCA Environmental Consultants of Albuquerque have announced a series of meetings where county residents may comment on a draft community wildfire-protection plan. In development for the past six months, the plan follows a risk assessment completed in 2007 that reviews wildfire risks and community values threatened by those risks throughout Santa Fe County.
Residents of northern Santa Fe County are invited to comment from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Pojoaque Valley Station, 17919 U.S. 84/285. For more information, call 455-2446.
Residents of central and western Santa Fe County are invited to comment on the draft plan from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Santa Fe County Extension Building Exhibit Hall, 3229 Rodeo Road. For more information, call 471-4711.
Residents of southern Santa Fe County are invited to comment from 6 to 8 p.m. April 15 at the Edgewood Soil and Water Conservation District, 2506 Route 66, Moriarty. For more information, call 832-1111.

Meet the ECIA candidates
Four of seven seats on the Eldorado Community Improvement Association board of directors are up for grabs in a mail-in vote scheduled to run through May 2.
The homeowners' association has announced a forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the El Dorado Elementary School gymnasium, 2 Avenida Torreon, where members can explore the views of five candidates vying for the four seats.
Eldorado residents Kirsten Jasna, Malcolm McFarlane, LuAnn Miller, Ed Moreno and Lisa Robles are contending for the four three-year seats.
An announcement of election results is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 5 at the association's annual meeting, also at El Dorado Elementary School.
Fiesta Verde talks scheduled
Lans Davisson of New Mexico State University's Urban and Community Forestry Program will present a talk about native trees as a part of a monthlong Fiesta Verde focusing on the environment and how people relate to it. The talk will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Las Chivas Coffee Roasters in the Agora shopping center on
Avenida Vista Grande near N.M. 285 in Eldorado.
The event continues April 19 with an 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. presentation by landscape designer Judith Phillips, titled "Love Where You Live," comparing similar characteristics of human and wildlife habitats.
Residents group meets tonight
The Eldorado Residents Association plans to hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Eldorado Community Center, 1 Hacienda Loop. The independent association focuses on organizing community events and tracking issues that matter to Eldorado residents.
