Some of the many events being held and sponsored by area faith communities:At 8 a.m. on Sunday, Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan will preside at the celebration of the Spanish Market Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Place. The service honors all the artists and their families who have kept the traditions of New Mexico folk art alive. Several pieces of art, including the winner of the Archbishop's Award, will be featured.
The cathedral also offers the following services on a weekly basis:
- Saturdays, Mass is celebrated at 7 a.m. The Anticipatory Mass for Sunday begins at 5:15 p.m.
- Sunday Mass is celebrated at 8 a.m., in Spanish; at 10 a.m. and noon in English. The Life Teen Mass is celebrated at 5:15 p.m.
- Monday through Friday, the Liturgy of the Hours is prayed following the 7 a.m. celebration of Mass and the 5:15 p.m. celebration of Mass.
- At 7 p.m. on Mondays, the parish rosary is prayed in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
- From 7:45 to 8:45 a.m., on Tuesdays, a Scripture study is held in Clare Hall. The study follows the celebration of the 7 a.m. Mass and morning prayer.
- At 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, adult Christian meditation takes place in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, presented by Barbara Barlow.
- At 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, the Bereavement Support Group for Spouses and Significant Others is facilitated by Sister Arlene Einwalter in Clare Hall. Call Einwalter at 989-9974.
- At 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, the Blue Army Fatima rosary is prayed in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel following the celebration of the 5:15 p.m. Mass.
- At 6:30 p.m., a Bible study with the Rev. Jonas Romea is held in Clare Hall.
- From 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, the Christian Meditation Ministry gathers.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Villanueva will hold its 2009 Fiesta de Santiago at the parish today.
At 10 a.m., Mass will be celebrated followed at 11 a.m. with a horse ride from El Pueblo. The food and games booths open at 11 a.m. Entertainment and bingo also begin at 11 a.m. The dance, with music by Sangre de Indio, begins at 8 p.m.

St. Anne Catholic Church will hold its annual fiesta today and Sunday at the church.
The fiesta begins at 7 p.m. today with bingo in the parish hall.
On Sunday, right after the 11 a.m. celebration of Mass, the main fiesta festivities will begin. Food, games, live music and a raffle will be held. The public is invited to attend.

At the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at The Celebration, Eric Schneider will discuss "Forgiving Everyone, or Happiness Made Simple." The church meets at the National Education Association, 2007 Botulph Road. The service is filled with music, a reading, meditation and a talk by a member of the congregation or a guest speaker. At 2 p.m. on Aug. 3, Our Lady of the Woods will celebrate the sabbat of Lammas at North Mesa Park in Los Alamos. Those who attend are asked to bring a contribution for the potluck to be held after the ceremony. Our Lady of the Woods is a church and coven of the Wiccan faith serving Los Alamos, Santa Fe and the Northern Española Valley. It is led by Mist, the high priestess. First Presbyterian Church holds two services on Sundays — at 8:30 and 11 a.m. At both services, the Rev. Brooke Pickrell will preach. Stephen Hartley, a baritone, will perform as part of the summer Opera Apprentice Program. Coffee and fellowship will be held at 9:45 a.m. in Pope Hall.
The adult education classes begin at 9:45 a.m. A summer series will be held from Sunday through Aug. 3. Three classes will be offered:
- "Creation Care: The Ethics of Global Warming," facilitated by Larry Rasmussen. with Nancy Maret and Robb Thomson.
- "Living the Questions" (each week a different topic) with Etta Smith.
- Bible Discussion: The Old Testament with the Rev. Terry Pruvis-Smith.
At 6 p.m. on Monday, a concert in the sanctuary wll be presented that includes a premier of Glenn Spring's In Memoriam Georgia O'Keeffe and Stephen Dodgson's Concert de Carillon. Performers also include Larry Palmer, Linton Powell and Jane Clark, with Linda Raney and Kathy Fox-Powell. The concert is free and open to the public.
Congregation Beit Tikva, sharing Jewish values in the Reform Tradition, holds Shabbat services at 7 p.m. on Fridays.
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Rabbi Nicolas Behrmann will lead the weekly Torah study class. For more information, call Eva Wohl at 577-4977.
- At 7 p.m. at this Friday's Shabbat service, Behrmann will speak on "Av — the Month of Lamentations." Behrmann says the month of Av commemorates the destruction of the ancient temple and one custom is to read the Book of Lamentations in the Hebrew Scriptures. Cantor Michael Linder will lead the congregation in chants and song.
- Applications are being accepted for fall sessions of the Sunday School, beginning Aug. 24 for grades pre-school through seventh grade. Preparations for both Bar and Bat Mitzvah also are available.

At the Aug. 3 service of Eckankar — the Religion of the Light and Sound of God,
Trish Burkitt will discuss "To Listen is to Love: Those Wonderful ECK Masters." The 10:30 a.m. service offers readings, singing HU (a love song to God), a talk by Hall, a discussion and fellowship. People of all faiths or no faith are welcome to attend. The services are open to all who want to experience giving and receiving divine love. The Santa Fe Kabbalah Study Groups welcome anyone interested in the study of Kabbalah. The Beginners and Advanced groups have been on a summer break.
- The Beginners Group will meet on Thursday to complete interior work utilizing Kabbalistic principles as set out on the Tree of Life.
- The Advanced Group will meet on Aug. 7 to continue the study of Exodus 3 when an angel or archangel appears to Moses in a flame of fire out of a burning bush that does not consume itself.

At 9 a.m. on Sundays, Pastor Doug Escue and the members of Immanuel Lutheran Church celebrate the day of resurrection, followed by a study of the Bible. Worship at the church — a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod — consists of the historic catholic liturgy. Member congregations of the LCMS confess that eternal salvation come thorugh Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
This Sunday, Escue will discuss the teachings from Paul's Letter of the Romans where he writers that nothing can separate believers in Christ from the love of God.
The Adult Bible study includes a discussion of Predestination — God's mysterious election of those He has chosen to save for all eternity.

"Truth" is the subject of the Bible lesson at the 10 a.m. Sunday service at First Church of Christ, Scientist. The Bible as well as passages from the Christian Science textbook Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, are used in the lesson. Children and young people under 20 are welcome to attend the Sunday School held at the same time.
The Christian Science Church was established in 1879 to commemorate the word and works of Christ Jesus, which would reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.
Wednesday services are held at 7:30 p.m. and include readings from the Bible and Science and Health followed by testimonies of healing from the congregation.

At the 10 a.m. Sunday service at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, guest Andrea Fisher Maril will discuss "Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico."
Fisher Maril is the chief executive officer of the program. She will discuss its impact in the Los Alamos community. A question-and-answer session will follow her talk.

At the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services at
St. John's United Methodist Church, the
Rev. Scott Penrod will discuss the Gospel of Matthew's account of Jesus comparing the kings with a buried treasure, a fine pearl and the means of separating the wicked from the good.
Holy communion will be offered at both services during July.
A Children's Moment with Janet Dennison, the program director, is an integral part of each service.
A coffee hour for fellowship is held from
9:30 to 10 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.

The TaHa Mosque in Santa Fe holds weekly services at 1 p.m. on Fridays. This Friday, the Khutba or sermon will continue on the purification of the heart and the need to uphold the rituals of prayer — salat — fasting — sayaam — and other forms of worship. The Khutba will be centered around verses from the Koran on the importance of making the daily prayers and fasting during Ramadan.
The mosque offers the five-daily prayers including Fajr — morning prayer — and Maghrib — evening prayer — and Koran recitations. Adult and children's classes are held at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Classes for teenagers are held at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In faith
Sunday services at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints begin at 10 a.m. with Sacrament meeting, followed at 11 a.m. with Sunday School. The Priesthood and Relief Society meet at noon. This Sunday, the group will discuss
the May, 2007 Ensign article by Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, titled Teaching for Our Time: Ask in Faith. The Gospel Doctrine Class will discuss "All Things Denote There is a God," Lesson No. 27.
- From 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, the Cub Scouts meet at the church.
- From 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Spanish/English classes are held at the church.

At 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, the early meditation service begins at the Santa Fe Center for Spiritual Living. This Sunday, it will be led by practitioner Gene Watson.The Sunday celebrations service begins at 10 a.m. with Kelvin McNeal, the music director, and the center's music staff who will lead the congregation in chants during the prelude.
At 10:15 a.m. , the Rev. Bernardo Monserrat will discuss "How Much Love Can I Give?"
Monserrat says a person's capactiy for love is infinite. But each individual can only tap into it as he or she learns to give love away with the power of spirit.
Music this Sunday will be performed by some of the singers and songwriters who participated in a recent song-writing workshop.
The youth program takes place at 10 a.m., during the service. Judy Blaise is the youth director. Other programs at the center are:
- From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays, the "Stretching for Body/Mind," led by Virgil Cain Reed, incorporates Hatha Yoga, Spinal Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan and Optimal Breathing. Suggested donation is $5.
- The Inspiration Line is 795-PRAY or 795-7729. It offers a fresh reminder of who we are and an opportunity to leave a prayer request.
- From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesdays, a Happy Hour with the Rev. Bernardo Monserrat is designed to lighten life with "The Light of Spirit." There is a suggested donation of $10 for this event.
- Spiritual Coaching encourages the use of psycho-spiritual tools for everyday life. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays. It is open to the public. The suggested donation is $5 to $10 per class.
