November 3, 1908: A. A. Jones, Las Vegas attorney and member of the Democratic National Central Committee, who has been in the Middle Western states making speeches for Brian and Kern, will return home tomorrow. He gave out a very enthusiastic interview on political conditions while in St. Louis which, however, represents only his views and is not borne out at all by the facts.

November 3, 1958: Salt Lake City — Conductor Maurice Abravanel is offering free tickets to all candidates beaten in Tuesday's Utah elections. The tickets are to Wednesday night's concert of the Utah Symphony Orchestra. "This is the best way, I feel, to bring solace to the losers," says the maestro. "Music has the power to soothe even the deepest emotional wounds."

New Haven, Conn. — Café manager Wallace Holland, angered at the sight of a non-luncher's car in his lot, pushed it into the middle of the street, and then called police to complain that a car was parked improperly. Police more or less agreed. They charged Holland with improperly parking the car there.

November 3, 1983: Developers and owners of the proposed Eldorado Equestrian Center have counter-sued residents who in September sought to block construction of the $9 million facility. Los Caballos de Santa Fe filed suit Wednesday seeking nearly $4 million from the Eldorado Residents Association, claiming the group's suit caused the corporation to suffer "substantial monetary losses."

On the other hand, there's an excellent case to be made that MacKay has been preparing for this position, sometimes on the job, for quite a bit longer. Try 40-some years. »Story
