July 1, 1909: In redistricting New Mexico under the Congressional law creating the Seventh Judicial District, the Supreme Court today named Socorro as headquarters of the Seventh, and appointed a permanent examining committee under the new Bar Examination Law. On the committee Charles C. Catron, W.J. Lucas and Julius Staab were named.

Land Commissioner and Mrs. Ervien and son Howell left this morning overland in the Good Roads automobile for their home at Clayton, Union County.

July 1, 1959: Fourteen deaths in a 24-hour period today left New Mexico with the bloodiest June in highway records, and three new dead going into the traffic peak of the July 4th holidays. The traffic death count stands at 222 — 59 more than a year ago.

New Mexico's soaring traffic accident rate had its effect on drivers' pocketbooks today with members of the National Bureau of Casualty Underwriters raising their liability insurance rates for state customers. The cost of standard accident liability will be hiked as much as $9 for drivers in the Albuquerque area and up to $3 for drivers in other parts of New Mexico.
