Nov. 2, 1911: Democratic headquarters informed The New Mexican this afternoon that it had found takers who had covered the second $1,000 that had been offered on the election of H.O. Bursum to the governorship.
Nov. 2, 1961: Two elk hunters, missing in the rugged Brazos country near Chama, were found safe this afternoon. They were spotted from the air in the upper Brazos River area. A weasel operated by the State Game Department personnel immediately headed for the area and brought the men out, apparently in good shape despite being stranded in the mountains for five days.
Nov. 2, 1986: Albuquerque — U.S. Forest Service employees in New Mexico will be trained in the use of firearms and law-enforcement tactics as part of a national plan aimed at halting marijuana cultivation in national forests. The Forest Service plans to deploy 500 special agents nationwide and spend up to $20 million annually to crack down on marijuana growers who use the forests as marijuana farms.
