June 24, 1909: The city authorities at Las Vegas yesterday raided a saloon and arrested half a dozen women and their escorts on charges of being drunk and disorderly. The women were fined.
Work on the first unit of the Mesilla Valley Street Car line, which eventually is to run from El Paso to the Eagle Dam site, is to be commenced this summer.
H.F. DuVall has returned from a trip to San Pedro in southern Santa Fe County. He reports considerable activity in prospecting and development in the San Pedro and Golden mining districts, and also a definite rumor that the smelter in the Santa Fe Gold and Copper Co. at San Pedro will resume in the near future.
June 24, 1959: A U.S. Public Health Service report estimated water users at Farmington and Aztec receive more than their 'allowable daily intake of radium.' There is evidence of radioactive pollution in the Animas River.
June 24, 1984: The flower children of the 60s grew up and moved to Santa Fe. That is just one possible reason why Santa Fe supports an extraordinary number of successful nurseries. The Santa Fe telephone book's yellow pages lists eight full-line nurseries, several Albuquerque nurseries, a variety of sod and tree farms and a host of landscape companies. Lee Newman, co-owner of Evergreen Nursery on Cerrillos Road, thinks that the large number of nurseries indicates something of the general attitude of the city residents. 'It's the cosmopolitan nature of people in Santa Fe. They are very much into flowers.'
