May 14, 1908: J.W. Akers has returned from his sheep ranch in Sandoval County were she spent several weeks during the lambing season.

E.W. Hart, Las Vegas architect, returned home last night. He came here to consult with the building committee of the Elks Lodge. Mr. Hart will draw up preliminary plans for the new opera house to be erected by the Elks.

Mrs. Thomas B. Catron, who arrived early last week in San Francisco from a tour of Japan and the Philippines, and was met there by her son, John W. Catron of Butte, Mont., and accompanied by him, is now at Los Angeles, expecting to return to Santa Fe in the near future.

May 14, 1958: Albuquerque — The New Mexico Medical Society wants a uniform adoption law for the state. It voted to appoint a special committee to work with other agencies and professions in drafting adequate legislation concerning adoption procedures.

May 14, 1983: Las Vegas, N.M. — Conservation district officials say police will be called if necessary to protect crews inspecting the Pecos Arroyo Dam, reportedly blocked by a rancher who has refused access to the site. Rancher Jerry Hooper of Midland, Texas, purchased the property four years ago ... and locked the gates to the site.
