August 4, 1911: With powerful field glasses strapped around their chests, cameras and Kodaks of many kinds in their hands, booklets on 'The Indians of the Southwest' in their pockets and lunch boxes and packages under their arms, a 'battalion' or two of scientists, tourists, residents and excursionists in quest of an outing left this morning in special cars over the Santa Fe for Santo Domingo, there to witness the Corn Dance of the real American Indian. Harvey S. Lutz, city agent of the railway, said the 131 persons left on the train for Lamy with an additional coach to accommodate the crowd. Many Santa Feans and visitors also made the trip in automobiles.
August 4, 1961: The Santa Fe City Schools will have $23,870 more to spend next year than previously calculated, according to an adjusted budget figure sent Supt. Pat Murphy by John Gott, state public school finance director. Virtually the entire boon is the result of the one-mill of the City of Santa Fe's property-taxing power that was relinquished to the schools by city council.
August 4, 1986: A hearing will be conducted today in Bernalillo County Children's Court to determine the fate of a 12-year-old Santa Fe girl, who FBI agents from Ohio say is a girl kidnapped from her mother in 1982. The girl's parents, who moved to Santa Fe from Albuquerque two months ago, say it is a case of mistaken identity. They have pictures, doctors and friends who have known their Jennifer for more than four years but say the FBI agents don't want to hear what they have to say. The mother of the missing girl says she believes Jennifer is her daughter who was taken by her grandfather four years ago. There was another girl living with her grandfather attending the same alternative school as Jennifer and looked very much like Jennifer but who was two years younger. He and the other girl left the school soon after FBI agents came around asking questions about him.
