From The Santa Fe New Mexican

August 21, 1909: The special election in Lincoln County held yesterday to determine whether the county seat should be moved from Lincoln to Carrizozo resulted in a victory for the latter town. The result, however, will be carried into the courts.

B. Tonnies, the Palace Avenue shoemaker, has returned from a visit to his old home in St. Louis. He is better satisfied than ever with Santa Fe for he says the heat of St. Louis was intolerable.

August 21, 1959: Four young 'punks' have been taken into custody by Santa Fe police in connection with the stoning of Santa Fe artist Tommy Macaione. Officer Dick Montoya said all have admitted the attack on Macaione Monday evening. A barrage of rocks knocked the artist down and he suffered badly bruised hip and ribs. Montoya said two of the youths were 15 and two were 17. The youths will be turned over to juvenile authorities for further action.

Mora — A dispute over a small piece of land has ended in the fatal beating of a 78-year-old Mora man and the jailing of his neighbor. A coroner said the former Raton man died Tuesday of blows on the head from a pistol. The 40-year-old neighbor was jailed without bond. The two had a suit in District Court to decide ownership of a piece of land of less than an acre.

August 21, 1984: A special master in a water rights lawsuit that's been pending for 18 years says Indians in the Pojoaque basin have first right to the irrigation water and excess water. The findings of Edward Yudin are non-binding recommendations to U.S. District Judge Edwin Mechem, who's expected to make a final decision in the State vs. Aamodt case in two weeks.
