Nov. 5, 1911: Capt. A.L. Westgard and his party of 11 on a transcontinental motor trip did not arrive here last night although rooms had been reserved for them at the Montezuma. They arrived at Las Vegas at midnight and will arrive here sometime today spending Sunday here as was planned.

Nov. 5, 1961: Tres Piedras — Two former Texans, lost and snowbound west of here for six days, wept without shame when a State Forest Service weasel Thursday inched its way Friday to the line cabin where they had sought refuge. It was the climax to a search that at one time saw 40 men from various agencies tackling the almost impossible task of rescue. The two lost their bearings while hunting elk on private land southeast of Chama on Chaves Creek a week ago. They lost their way before the storm moved through Northern New Mexico Saturday.
Things often seem to be sort of backward at the capitol. For example, George Babcock is telling that Secretary of State Betty Fiorina fired him and Mrs. Fiorina is saying that she didn't fire him — he quit.
Nov. 5, 1986: Republican Garrey Carruthers was elected governor of New Mexico Tuesday. Incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Bill Richardson cruised to his third term Tuesday when voters in the 3rd Congressional District chose him in what appears to be a landslide over former-Gov. David Cargo.
