From The Santa Fe New Mexican

June 28, 1959: This week inmates at the New Mexico State Prison received more than $10,000 worth of dental work — free. Dentures were turned out by the score, defective hygienic conditions corrected, bridges made and cavities filled as 45 applicants for New Mexico dentist licenses converged on the state prison here to pass their 'final exam.'

Honolulu — Hawaiians gave a smashing final vote of approval Saturday to make these mid-Pacific islands the 50th state. Incomplete but well-scattered returns in a plebiscite showed islanders voting about 16-1 in favor of statehood.

June 28, 1984: Albuquerque — A proposal to contribute $10,000 for a state study to develop passenger train service between Albuquerque and Santa Fe has been unanimously approved by the Albuquerque City Council's Finance Committee. Members of the Finance Committee said Monday the service would boost tourism and would make daily commuter transportation more efficient. The proposal is a modification of Gov. Toney Anaya's earlier proposal to develop a high speed train from Santa Fe to Las Cruces.
