From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

July 5, 1959: The New Mexican can testify through personal experience that its beating of the drums for more efficient tax collection is getting results. Among those caught in Revenue Commissioner Johnny Walker's drive to get all the taxes from everybody as demanded by The New Mexican was — you guessed it — The New Mexican. When the auditor worked out all the figures and added on the penalty and interest the bill added up to $2,200. The newspaper didn't figure it was in any position to argue. "After all," commented General Manager Emory Bahr, "we asked for it."

July 5, 1984: Santa Fe County's unemployment rate dropped .5 percent between April and May to a record low 4.5 percent — the lowest rate since the state began keeping such statistics in 1970.
