June 25, 1909: The street sprinkler yesterday made a trip up Palace Avenue all the way to the city line. If the people of Upper Palace do not look out, the garbage wagon will come up their way some day and the Board of Education will build a fourth Ward School by the year 1925.
A boy, who arrived in town this morning coming from Santa Fe Canyon, reports that at Monument Rock a dead cow is lying in the stream polluting the water.
June 25, 1959: The city manager has laid down the law to the police chief. In a directive issued by City Manager Howard Ashbaugh this week, Police Chief A.B. Martinez has been instructed to keep regular office hours except when "unusual circumstances ... demand your special attention." The order was an outgrowth of numerous complaints received from Santa Fe residents who had been unable to contact police chief when they had urgent business with him. Martinez objects. He feels being tied down to regular office hours would interfere with the performance of his duties.
