After all the hoo-ha, it appears that a popular name for new downtown convention center might be ... The Santa Fe Convention Center.

Of the 125 submissions to the city, 95 entries sent in a name that might be a tad boring, but that describes the building and its function. Keith Toler, who directs the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau, had been using the convention center name in marketing.

But in Santa Fe, nothing is ever that easy — rather than go for the practical, an advisory committee considered Santa Fe Center, a name that could cover anything from a mall to a yoga hot spot.

The City Council decided to ask for public input, and the public responded. Good sense, for once, might prevail.
