LAS VEGAS — The San Miguel County manager has stopped a program that provided free rides home from bars.
Manager Les Montoya says the County Commission has liability concerns with the Safe Ride program, which offered rides from Thursday to Saturday nights.
Montoya says there also were concerns the program was promoting drinking.
He's seeking community reaction to the program while it's on hold.
The Safe Ride program started March 23.
Its coordinator, Wendy Armijo, says it provided 302 rides as of mid-July, averaging 25 rides a weekend.
She says the state-funded program was extremely effective and she was surprised when it was discontinued.
