The Web site of the Secretary of State's Office crashed for part of Sunday and Monday because of a telecommunications problem affecting Internet services to some state agencies.

James Flores, a spokesman for Secretary of State Mary Herrera, said the Department of Information Technology was able to restore the services, and it was hoped the problem wouldn't return during today's primary election.

The Secretary of State's Office planned to make available a link on its Web page to allow the public to track preliminary, unofficial results of primary election races across the state.

In addition, the public uses the Web site to gain access to campaign finance reports filed by candidates and political committees.

Flores said the Secretary of State's Office was without e-mail service when the agency's Internet services failed and it had problems using a voter registration and election management computer system.

The Web site was down intermittently Sunday and wasn't working until early Monday afternoon.

Andy Lenderman, a spokesman for the Information Technology Department, said a problem with a digital microwave radio network caused the loss of Internet services to several agencies in Santa Fe, including the Governor's Office and the Department of Finance and Administration. Service was restored through a backup system that uses fiber optic cable rather than a wireless network.

The circle will be unbroken

Charles MacKay became Santa Fe Opera's third general director on Oct. 1, 2008. Looked at one way, that means he'll have been on the job just 276 days when the 2009 season opens on Friday, July 3. On the other hand, there's an excellent case to be made that MacKay has been preparing for this position, sometimes on the job, for quite a bit longer. Try 40-some years. »Story
