Candidates in Santa Fe's 2010 municipal election collected and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for their campaigns, according to a final round of reports filed Tuesday with the city clerk.
The March 2 election resulted in the re-election of all the incumbents seeking office, with 10 candidates vying for five positions. Two races were uncontested.
Mayor David Coss received the most contributions, reporting a total of $175,283.93. Coss also spent the most money for his campaign at $173,899. Mayoral candidate Asenath Kepler received $75,426.98 in contributions.
The final campaign finance report for the third mayoral candidate, Miguel Chavez, has yet to be filed. City Clerk Yolanda Vigil said Chavez's treasurer has been ill.
District 1 City Councilor Chris Calvert received a total of $21,364 in contributions.
Stefanie Beninato, who ran against District 2 City Councilor Rebecca Wurzburger, collected the least amount of contributions at $1,361. Wurzburger received $31,908 in contributions.
Candidates with remaining cash on hand have six months from the March 2 election to spend it. The city code delineates how the money can be used, including donation to the city's general fund, to charities or other nonprofits, or for expenditures by the public official "that are reasonably related to performing the duties of the office held in order to serve constituents." The money can also be returned to contributors.
City rules require campaigns to deposit checks received within five days and include those contributions on the next required finance report.
