Santa Fe Quakers are inviting the whole community to the new southside "Quaker House," which opened in September 2008. This location, sponsored by the South Santa Fe Quaker Worship Group, offers opportunities for worship and friendly times together — in addition to the long-standing programs at the historic Olive Rush Meetinghouse on Canyon Road.
All are welcome to share in "Bread, Soup, and Friends" at Quaker House every third Wednesday evening of the month.
"This is a chance to rest, replenish, and meet new friends," Nichoe Lichen says, and adding, "We have no agenda except fellowship." Bread and soup are provided. There is no charge and no need to bring anything, although some people bring supplemental dishes.
On Sundays the group welcomes everyone to join in worship.
Quakers worship in "living silence."
"People come here for a breather," Margaret Laulor says, "and they stay for a deeper, more extended spiritual experience."
We are happy that like-minded, nonsectarian community groups meet here also. The testimonies of the Religious Society of Friends include peace, justice, truth and simplicity. All who work toward those ideals are our dear and valued friends.
Founded in 2006 under care of the Canyon Road Meeting, the South Santa Fe Quaker Worship Group first met at the Center for the Natzratim and then in a room at the former International Institute of Oriental Medicine in Agua Fria.
The new Quaker House is centrally located at 1730 Camino Carlos Rey, Suite 209. This address is on the short end of Camino Carlos Rey, northwest of Cerrillos Road.
An introductory class, "Quakerism 101," is offered this winter. For additional information and the time of Sunday worship, call 471-2288 or e-mail ssfqwg@cybermesa.com. We look forward to being in touch with you.
