Court documents say one of the four men arrested last week on charges of soliciting a minor had drawn the attention of Santa Fe police when he ran a personal ad on Craigslist looking for a "slut."

A search warrant shows that after a four-week investigation, police on Feb. 3 seized multiple computer hard drives and cellphones from the Buckman Road home of Jared Oshell, 35.

The document filed in state District Court outlines a sting operation by the Santa Fe Police Department's Crimes Against Children Unit, and how police say Oshell tried to engage in sexual behavior with someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl named Niki.

Oshell faces charges of child solicitation and eight counts of attempted criminal sexual communication with a child.

According to the document, an investigator posing as "Niki" responded to Oshell's Craigslist.com ad titled "Slut-m4w-35." Part of Oshell's advertisement read, "Looking for a slut ... I want to hear you scream."

Communication between Oshell and the undercover detectives began Jan. 10 and continued through Jan. 31. Police on Feb. 3 arrested Oshell at the Palace Restaurant and Saloon, 142 W. Palace Ave., where he had worked since last September.

A statement of probable cause to search Oshell's house said that "Mr. Oshell solicited 'Niki' for sexual acts" and had sent eight sexually explicit photos from electronic devices.

One of those photos, according to the statement, shows Oshell's torso and face.

Oshell declined to comment on the allegations against him, but said he is seeking an attorney. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

The court document cites what it says were multiple examples of Oshell asking if "Niki" wanted to engage in sex. In a period of 35 minutes on Jan. 10, the documents says, Oshell emailed "Niki" 427 times.

According to the document, Oshell repeatedly sought images of her genitals and tried to arrange for meetings. When he didn't get a response, the documents states, he sent an email asking, "Did you chicken out?"

On at least two occasions, the document shows that Oshell became suspicious of "Niki" after they began texting each other. He sent a message saying, "Do me a favor and tell me you are not a cop."

According to the document, he also asked her, "What is the age of consent in New Mexico?" But soon after, on Jan. 17, after he had arranged with "Niki" to meet at Franklin E. Miles Park, he asked, "When do you turn 16?"

The document says the undercover agents did text Oshell a message that "Niki" was not a cop.

Still suspicious, Oshell texted her later that night, according to the document, "Yeah I don't want to go to jail. Please delete all email and texts. Sorry. I value my freedom."

Communication continued through Jan. 27, when Oshell offered again to pick up Niki from a friend's house, according to the document.

Police said three other men were arrested as part of the department's sting operation and that a total of 10 arrest warrants should be issued for men suspected of soliciting sex from minors.
