An unidentified man was killed late Friday when he was hit by a sport-utility vehicle as he was walking on Interstate 25 near the Old Pecos Trail exit, sheriff's investigators said.
Patrick Gallegos, 44, of Las Vegas, N.M., was traveling on I-25 north in a black 2004 GMC Yukon when the man entered the roadway from his right and then reversed directions.
Gallegos took evasive action but was not able to avoid striking the man, investigators said. The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the accident.
Neither Gallegos nor the two passengers in the vehicle, his wife and daughter, were injured, the sheriff's report said.
Teen dies in accidental shooting
A 19-year-old Santa Fe man died early Saturday after he apparently accidentally shot himself in the head while playing with a gun with friends at his home Friday evening, police said.
Santa Fe police did not identify the victim pending notification of relatives, but said the accident occurred in the youth's bedroom at his home in the 200 block of Miramonte Street about 8 p.m. Friday.
Deputy Chief Abram Anaya said the victim was holding and "manipulating" the semi-automatic weapon when it went off, and the bullet struck him in the head. He was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and later flown to University Hospital in Albuquerque, where he died.
Anaya said the teen's mother, who also was not identified, called 911 at 8:13 p.m. reporting that her son had been found with a gunshot wound to the head.
Anaya said it appears the victim and three friends, ages 18 or 19, were not playing Russian roulette. He said that drugs and alcohol were found in the room.

LAS CRUCES — A Chaves County teenager with underlying health conditions has died from complications caused by the swine flu.
The state Department of Health says the death of the 15-year-old girl Saturday brings the statewide number of swine flu-related deaths to 13 this year.
The Health Department did not indicate what chronic condition the girl had.
Health Secretary Alfredo Vigil says the girl's death is a reminder that people with chronic health problems should take every precaution to protect themselves.
Six of the 13 people who died had some type of chronic health condition that put them at a higher risk for developing serious complications from swine flu, also known as H1N1.
