Police: Cyclist hit along Guadalupe
A bicyclist was injured Sunday morning when he was struck by a car in the intersection of Guadalupe and Catron streets, police said.
Deputy Chief Abram Anaya said William Donnelly, 52, was pedaling north on Guadalupe about 9:45 a.m. when he was hit by an auto driven by Joy Handsberry, no age available, who was southbound and turning left onto Catron.
Anaya said Donnelly suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. His injuries were thought not to be life-threatening. It was not clear from police whether Donnelly was wearing a helmet.
Handsberry is expected to be charged, though the investigation is continuing, Anaya said. Donnelly was crossing the intersection on a green light, police records indicated.
Man who ran into car identified
A man who suffered minor head injuries Saturday evening when he walked into the side of a moving pickup in the middle of Cerrillos Road near Zafarano Drive was identifed Sunday as Steven Armijo, 36, of Santa Fe, police said.
Deputy Chief Abram Anaya said Armijo, apparently inebriated, had been walking in the southbound lanes of Cerrillos about 50 feet south of Zafarano, and several vehicles had swerved around him. However, as a pickup tried to avoid him, Armijo walked into the side of the truck, suffering a glancing blow that knocked him to the ground.
The driver, who was not identified, was not cited. Anaya said the 8 p.m. accident forced the shutdown of the southbound lanes near the intersection for about 40 minutes. The investigation continues, but Armijo is expected to be charged with jaywalking, Anaya said.
