A main waterline break in Eldorado left about 125 families without water for more than a day.
The line broke on Bosque Loop near an arroyo on Thursday morning. Crews worked all night to bring in supplies and reach the pipe under concrete. About 100 feet of pipe in the arroyo needed to be replaced, according to the Eldorado Area Water and Sanitation District, which services the Eldorado area.
The ground was wet, making it hard for crews to get to the pipe.
Drinking water was delivered to most of the families without service.
Water pressure was low in other parts of the community but had not affected water service to El Dorado Community School or the Eldorado Community Improvement Association offices, according to staff.
Panel: Abandon acequia easement
The city's archaeological review committee says the city should abandon an easement that was supposed to protect the historic Las Joyas acequia near the Santa Fe River, noting the ditch had been bulldozed by a developer and there is nothing left to save.
The committee said Thursday the ditch easement shown on a development plat for the Casas de Cipriano was located differently than the actual ditch.
Residents who had fought for an easement to protect the abandoned irrigation ditch when the new housing development was planned there expressed disappointment. "The neighborhood didn't get anything out of this process," said Rick W. Martinez, president of the La Joya Neighborhood Association, "and the developer got away with it."
Martinez said the city still has a chance to protect the Acequia de las Joyas on the last lot of the Cipriano development, but he doesn't think it will happen.
Cable show seeks local project
HGTV, the home and garden cable channel, wants to put a Santa Fe family on television and help them with a small home improvement project as part of a new program.
A news release from the Santa Fe Convention & Visitors Bureau said the producer is looking for "outgoing folks between the age of 25 and 50" who have a small home improvement project — up to $5,000 — that they'd like help with.
The project must be "small scale — no tearing down of walls, for example."
The company also is looking for a local contractor "that may want to take part in the project by providing local expertise."
