The Santa Fe Internal Revenue Service office at 2945 Rodeo Park Drive East will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday to help small businesses and individuals solve tax problems.
IRS open houses help taxpayers and businesses work through their problems and walk out with solutions, according to IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman.
For example, a taxpayer who cannot pay a tax balance due can discuss with an IRS professional whether an installment agreement is appropriate and, if so, fill out the paperwork then and there, Shulman said.
Assistance with offers-in-compromise also will be available. Likewise, a taxpayer struggling to complete a certain IRS form or schedule can work directly with IRS staff to get the job done and more.
Monster Battle to take place on Plaza
Meow Wolf's third annual Monster Battle is scheduled for noon Sunday on the Santa Fe Plaza.
The Monster Battle is a flash-mob style performance-art piece that invites anyone and everyone to dress up in costume and bombard The Plaza "in a battle over Santa Fe reign," according to the performance group.
The group expects 100 costumed performers in outrageous garb and getup "as unsuspecting tourists and locals alike are treated to a rare and magnificent spectacle," according to the group.
County Clerk warns of potential scam
The Santa Fe County Clerk's Office is warning residents about a for-profit business involving property deeds.
Mail solicitations are offering to provide, for a fee of $59.50, copies of recorded deeds. These advertisements are addressed to the property owner and cite Santa Fe County's recording number.
The information on the letters has been obtained from public records by the company making the solicitation. Although legal, it is not necessary for an individual to use such services to obtain copies of recorded deeds or other documents.
The Santa Fe County Clerk's Office provides certified copies for $2 for the first page and $1 for each page thereafter per document, except marriage licenses, which cost $2.50. Most warranty deeds are one page and require only a $2 fee. If you are in need of a certified copy, visit the clerk's website at www.santafecounty.org to obtain a request form, fill out and mail to the Santa Fe County Clerk's Office, P.O. Box 1985, Santa Fe, NM 87504-1985 or contact the Clerk's Office during business hours at 986-6280.
