Galisteo Basin well to be plugged

A Houston-based oil and gas company says it will plug the Black Ferrill well in the Galisteo Basin near Santa Fe.

Tecton Energy suspended production from the well in December 2007 when Santa Fe County implemented a moratorium on oil and natural gas drilling activities in the area.

The company says the plugging process, which includes removing equipment and installing protective casings between the wellbore and the aquifer, has been approved by state regulators.

The work is scheduled for next week.

Tecton announced in February it was no longer planning to drill in the Galisteo Basin, citing the economy and tougher state and county drilling regulations.

Anglers invited to fish the S.F. River

Many of the 500 rainbow trout stocked in the Santa Fe River for the annual fishing derby remain uncaught. The Department of Game and Fish is hoping anglers of all ages will catch the wily fish.

Snow and rain in the mountains have provided plenty of moisture to the river and the city of Santa Fe's policy to let some of it flow through the municipal reservoirs has provided a steady stream flow almost to Frenchy's Field in recent weeks. Game and Fish officials worry that some stretches of the river will dry when the rains end and strand trout that floated downstream. They hope most of the fish can be caught before then.

Anglers ages 12 and older need a fishing license. The daily bag limit is five trout per day and no more than 10 in possession.

9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday: Single lane closures on St. Francis Drive and the intersections of Zia Road and St. Francis for striping operations. Expect delays.

9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday: Northbound I-25 will be closed in the area of the N.M. 599 exit. Traffic will be detoured to the N.M. 599 on/off ramps to get through the work zone. Expect minor delays.
