After a pair of wins last week over nationally-ranked teams, The University of New Mexico men's basketball team has broken through into both major national Top 25 polls for the first time this season.

In Monday's Associated Press Top 25 poll, the Lobos were ranked No. 18. The team is No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

UNM improved to 22-4 overall and 8-2 in Mountain West Conference play last week with a 77-67 road win over former No. 13 San Diego State on Wednesday (the Aztecs dropped to No. 24 in Monday's AP poll) and a dominating 65-45 home win over former No. 11 UNLV on Saturday in The Pit (the Runnin' Rebels slipped to No. 21 in Monday's AP poll).

UNM has four regular season games remaining this season and is alone in first place in the MWC standings.

Senior power forward Drew Gordon on Monday was also named the MWC Player of the Week, his fifth since joining the team midway through last season. In the San Diego State and UNLV victories, Gordon averaged 22.0 points per game and 18.5 rebounds.

Gordon's 27-point, 20-rebound game against UNLV made him just the eighth Division I player in the past decade to post a 20-20 game against a nationally-ranked opponent.

The Lobos play at Colorado State on Tuesday and at TCU on Saturday. Read Tuesday's New Mexican for a preview of the Colorado State game.
