ALBUQUERQUE — A class-action lawsuit alleges corrections officers at a central New Mexico prison forced inmates to sit almost naked in a single-file line with their genitals touching the next inmate as a form of punishment.
The lawsuit filed earlier this week in Valencia County contends up to 200 inmates at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas suffered physical and emotional injuries as a result of the alleged abuse.
A state Department of Corrections official declined comment Friday.
According to the lawsuit, the inmates were to remain seated with their hands behind their heads for hours at a time. If they didn't comply, they would be thrown against a wall and verbally abused.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages, along with an end to the practice.
