The following message was sent by the National Weather Service this morning:
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque would like to provide
you
with an update on the heavy rain threat for Saturday August 28th.
Overview
Moisture will continue streaming into New Mexico from the
south today. At the same time a vigorous upper level disturbance
will move out of Arizona and across the Land of Enchantment today
and tonight. This disturbance will work in tandem with the abundant
moisture to produce scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms
favoring the west, southwest and south central mountains where the
threat for heavy rainfall exists. Soil conditions have been dry the
past several days and we do not anticipate any flash flood watches
to be issued for today but stay tuned for updates if need be.
Showers and thunderstorms will also increase in coverage over the
central mountains and Rio Grande Valley including the Santa Fe and
Albuquerque metro areas. In addition, a few of the storms will be
capable of producing gusty winds and small hail. The potential
exists for localized flash flooding into this evening before the
system pulls away. Drier and more pleasant weather conditions are
expected on Sunday.
Hazards
None but locally heavy rainfall may increase the threat
for localized flash flooding this afternoon and evening.
