Three children from Eldorado missing since Tuesday were found safe and in good condition Sunday with their father in a state campground in Key West, Fla., said Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano.

Stephen Hilla and his 10-year-old twin sons and 8-year-old daughter were located by Florida authorities in Zachary Taylor State Park about 1:45 p.m. New Mexico time, Solano said.

State park police had responded to an animal control call. After contacting Hilla, they found that he was listed as wanted in a national crime database.

Hilla was arrested, and the three children were turned over to protective services in Florida, where they will remain until their mother, Johanna Hilla, arranges to have them returned to New Mexico, Solano said.

The children all attend El Dorado Elementary School and have been missing since Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the three were picked up for lunch by their father, who shares custody of the children with his ex-wife.

Johanna Hilla said when the three kids did not return home from school and Stephen Hilla did not try to contact her, she called authorities.
