Selena Hildebrand's bashed up blue 2001 Toyota is still sitting in the city's seizure lot off N.M. 14, where it was taken after she was arrested and charged with DWI on Oct. 30. Hildebrand, a 28-year-old employed at Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, admitted to police consuming alcohol about an hour before she made a left turn off St. Michael's Drive on to Pacheco Street heading toward Siringo Road. She struck the curb and continued traveling before the car stopped. Law enforcement officers found her sitting in the car on the side of the road. Hildebrand was unable to stand heel-to-toe during instructions for the field sobriety test and at one point stopped and said, "I already failed," according to the police incident report filed by officer Anthony Tapia. Hildebrand originally said that another car caused her to leave the roadway, but when asked to describe it, she described her own vehicle.
Hildebrand, who had injured her nose in the accident, was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center for a blood-alcohol test and was later booked into the Santa fe County jail on charges that included driving while under the influence, careless driving, leaving the accident scene and striking a fixture (the curb). Her blood-alcohol level was later found to be .20, more than two times the legal limit.
Gene J. Quintana, featured in last month's DWI Report, is scheduled for arraignment in Magistrate Court on Jan. 7 on charges of speeding, driving on a suspended or revoked license and possessing an open container of alcohol.
Editor's Note: DWI Report will appear on the first Monday of every
month to help readers track enforcement of the state's drinking and
driving laws. DWI arrests for the city and the county for October — 33
each — were a little ahead of the year-to-date average of 30.7 for the
county and 29.7 for the city. The busiest month was August, during
which the county made 43 arrests and the city 31. The report will
include an example from the month's statistics — from people arrested
for their first DWI to those who have multiple offenses. Drivers with
no prior DWIs are disproportionately responsible for death and injury
in DWI crashes.
