The city's Children and Youth Commission will award $1,473,000 in grants to 35 local organizations for fiscal year 2008-2009, according to a city announcement.
The amount includes an increase of $223,000 specifically designated for after-school programs that aim to prevent gangs, drugs, early sexual activity and violence.
Grantees this year include: Boys and Girls Club of Santa Fe, Challenge New Mexico, Cooking with Kids, Fine Arts for Children and Teens, Gerard's House, Girls' Inc., Girls On the Run of Santa Fe, Folk Art to Go, Las Cumbres Santa Fe Community Infant Program, National Dance Institute of New Mexico, Culturenet Poets in the Schools, New Mexico Suicide Intervention Project, New Vistas Early Childhood Development Program, Randall Davey Audubon Outdoor Science Education Programs, Santa Fe Children's Museum, Santa Fe Community College Temporary Child Care Assistance Program, Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools Youth Fieldtrips.
Also, Los Amigos Drug Prevention Program, Nava Afterschool Program, Salazar Afterschool Program, Sweeney Tutors and Afterschool Program, Teen Parent Center at Santa Fe High School, School Violence Prevention Continuum Program, Santa Fe SER Child Development Center; Santa Fe Teen Arts Center/Warehouse 21, Zona del Sol, Santa Fe Youth Symphony Mozart y Mariachi program, Southside Music Program/International Order of Odd Fellows, YMCA of Central New Mexico Afterschool Programs at Piñon and Chaparral Elementary Schools, Youth Shelters and Family Services, and YouthWorks!
