Northern New Mexico fishing report
Conchas Lake:
Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
Eagle Nest Lake: As of this past Monday the ice was still considered unsafe for fishing. For updated conditions, call the park office at 575-377-1534.
Lake Maloya/Lake Alice:
As of Monday there was about 8 inches of ice on Lake Maloya with the exception of the area around the spillway which was off limits. Fishing was good using home made dough baits, power baits and green and brown wooly buggers. At Lake Alice the ice was 11 inches thick. Fishing was good using salmon eggs and homemade dough baits.
Pecos River:
Trout fishing was slow. A few fish were taken by anglers using salmon eggs.
Rio Grande:
The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 501cfs. Trout fishing was slow-to-fair using salmon eggs and streamers. We had no reports on other species.
Storrie Lake:
As of Monday there was a thin layer of ice on the lake which was unsafe for fishing. For updated conditions, call the park office at 505-425-7278.
Northwest area
Abiquiú Lake:
Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Trout fishing on the Corrales, Belen and Albuquerque drains was slow-to-fair using wax worms, salmon eggs and small copper john barrs. We had no reports from Bernalillo and Peralta.
Bluewater Lake:
As of Monday, there was a layer of ice on the lake which was unsafe for fishing. The area received about 12 inches of snow over the weekend. Call the state park office at 505-876-2391 for updated ice conditions.
Chama River:
Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiú were 179 cfs and 216 cfs respectively. Fishing pressure continued to be light this past week but there were a few rainbows caught by anglers using salmon eggs and fishing below El Vado. Fishing below Abiquiú was slow.
Cochití Lake:
Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light. There was a thin layer of ice on portions of the lake as of Monday.
Fenton Lake:
As of Monday the lake was still closed to fishing due to thin ice conditions. For updated ice conditions, contact the park office at 575-829-3630.
Heron Lake:
Bank fishing was fair using salmon eggs and roe sacs for rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species.
Jemez Waters:
Water flow on the Jemez as of Monday morning was 24 cfs near Jemez Springs. Trout fishing below Battleship Rock was fair using salmon eggs and copper john barrs. Fishing on the East Fork and Cebolla was slow.
San Juan:
Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 504 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair using egg patterns, midge pupae, San Juan worms and small streamers. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using Kastmasters, salmon eggs and copper john barrs. Visibility was about 2 feet.
Santa Cruz Lake:
Early last week trout fishing was good using power bait, salmon eggs and spoons.
Catches of the week
Tingley Beach catch-and-release pond:
Jan. 3, Marcus Garcia, 8, of Albuquerque, caught and released a limit of trout, including a 15-inch rainbow. He was using a cream leech pattern. The same day, Angelico Chavez of Las Vegas used a green streamer and caught and released a limit of trout, including a 16-inch rainbow.
