The Flying Star Café opened officially Monday, but the café had introduced itself to Santa Fe on Saturday.

"We just kind of opened the door and let people come in and eat for free in the morning and again in the afternoon," said Bill Barnett, the eatery's manager. "We wanted to do a dry run with our people and introduce ourselves to the community."

Monday was busy as well. "There's a line to the door," Barnett said during a busy noon hour.

The Flying Star, which is in the Santa Fe Railyard, seats 175 inside, more on a patio that has yet to be completed, Barnett said.

The restaurant hired 100 people to staff the Santa Fe restaurant. The Flying Star in Santa Fe is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

June 6 will be the Santa Fe's Flying Star grand opening.

Flying Star, an Albuquerque-based chain, has been in business for 22 years.
