Northern New Mexico fishing report
Cimarron River: Water flow below Eagle Nest Lake as of Monday was 53cfs. Trout fishing was fair using spinners, copper john barrs, small streamers and worms.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using minnows, spoons and jigs for white bass. A few walleye were taken by anglers using spoons. Fishing for smallmouth bass was fair using tubes, grubs and crank baits. We had no reports on other species.
Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs.
Eagle Nest Lake: Kokanee snagging slowed considerably this past week. Bank fishing was slow with a few trout taken on roe sacs, salmon eggs and spinners. We had no reports from boaters.
Lake Maloya/Lake Alice: Trout fishing at Lake Maloya was very good using spoons, flies, salmon eggs and power bait for rainbows up to five pounds. Fishing at Lake Alice was slow, and the water was still quite murky.
Monastery Lake: Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs, spinners and Pistol Petes.
Pecos River: Water flow near the town of Pecos as of Monday morning was 44cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, night crawlers, caddis, parachute adams and copper john barrs.
Red River: Water flow below the hatchery was 62cfs. Trout fishing was good using wooly buggers, egg patterns, copper john barrs and night crawlers.
Rio Grande: The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 286cfs. Trout fishing on the upper river was good using wooly buggers, copper john barrs, spinners, jerk baits, salmon eggs and night crawlers for a mix of brown and rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species.
Springer Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs and cheese for trout up to 15 inches. The best action again this past week was reported in the north campground area.
Ute Lake: Fishing for white bass was good using slab spoons and blade baits at 30 feet. Anglers fishing for white bass also reported catching several catfish. Fishing was fair using tubes, crank baits and worms in 4 to 6 feet of water for smallmouth bass. Fishing for all other species was slow.
Abiquiú Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. A few walleye were taken by anglers trolling bottom bouncer/night crawler rigs and deep-running crank baits. Fishing pressure was very light.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was very slow for all species. Fishing pressure was extremely light.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiú were 44cfs and 72cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair using night crawlers, nymphs and salmon eggs for a mix of brown trout, rainbow trout and kokanee. We had no reports from below Abiquiú.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
El Vado Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using night crawlers and spinners for trout. A few kokanee were snagged by anglers who found them porpoising near the dam.
Heron Lake: Trout fishing from the bank was fair to good using roe sacs, power bait and salmon eggs. We had no reports from boaters. Anglers are reminded that it is unlawful to possess a kokanee from Oct. 1 thru Nov. 13.
Jackson Lake: Trout fishing was slow to fair using salmon eggs, power bait and worms.
Jemez Waters: Water flow on the Jemez as of Monday morning was 24cfs near Jemez Springs. Trout fishing on the Jemez, Rio Guadalupe, San Antonio and East Fork was fair to good using royal wulffs, copper john barrs, salmon eggs and worms.
Navajo Lake: Kokanee snagging was fair this past week at the south corner of the dam and near the Pine arm boat ramp. Fishing for northern pike was fair using deep-running crank baits on the main lake. A few rainbow trout were taken by anglers using roe sacs, power bait, spinners and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species.
Ramah Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week
San Juan: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 496cfs. Trout fishing was good for some but slow for others. Best flies in the Quality Waters were RS2s, emergers, red annelids, chamois leeches and egg patterns. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using night crawlers, salmon eggs, streamers and jerk baits.
Santa Cruz Lake: Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs, spinners, power bait and worms.
Santa Rosa Lake: On Oct. 29, Randy Campbell of Albuquerque caught a 4.5-pound walleye. He was using a tube and fishing the flats in less than 10 feet of water.
Chama River: On Oct. 30, Ray Sisneros of Cuba caught a 20.5-inch brown trout. He was fishing below El Vado Lake and using a night crawler. On Nov. 2, Dale Johns of Albuquerque caught a 19.5-inch kokanee while fishing off the island below El Vado. He was using a night crawler.
