Star Trek star in town: Simon Pegg, who played Montgomery Scott, in one of the summer's biggest hits, has been seen at Downtown Subscription buying coffee. Pegg is in the area to make Paul, the story of two British Comic Con-goers who meet up with a real-life alien on their way to the West Coast convention. With him in the film are Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jane Lynch and Sigourney Weaver. Many of the cast, along with writer/actor Nick Frost, already have been spotted at El Farol on a recent Friday night. The film is being directed by Greg Mottola, whose Adventureland — with Wiig and Hader and Twilight's Kristen Stewart — was one of the sweetest films of 2009. Seth Rogen voices the "alien."

Spotted on the Plaza: Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who stars as Denver "Denny" Duquette on Grey's Anatomy) last weekend, writes Karla Champlin and daughter, Lindsay Garcia. "He was very gracious to grant us a picture with him. His mother, stepfather and (actress and former MTV VJ) Hilarie Burton were with him also. He is extremely nice and down to earth. In my opinion he is McHottie!"

City Hall was the site of a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico hot-dog roast Wednesday to recruit volunteers for the "100 men in 100 days" campaign. City Councilors Ron Trujillo and Chris Calvert roasted the dogs, and DJ Peter Aragon provided the tunes. Some 200 hot dogs were served. The campaign is seeking to recruit more male volunteers to serve as "bigs," eliminating a waiting list of 100 boys. Women and couples also are more than welcome. To find out more, call 983-8360.
