Two local fencers,
Jake Harbour and
Gavin Medley, both 15, recently competed in the World Cup Cadet Men's Epée Competition in Bonn, Germany. The event featured 263 fencers from all over the world. The U.S. sent a squad of 12 fencers, all of whom had to qualify in the under-17 age group before being accepted for the World Cup.
The New Mexico Fencing Foundation, coached by
James Odom, was the only club in the U.S. to have two fencers qualify. Harbour placed 16th overall and Medley placed 27th. Both will take home "points" from finishing in the top 32.
The fencers will be in Dallas Nov. 9-12, for the national epee event, the North American Cup.
