Jewelry, devotional books, Bibles and prayer books, home accessories and a lot more will be available at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith gift shop, which will celebrate a grand opening on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

"It was really the inspiration" of parishioner Peggy Bonner, said the Rev. Ken Semon, interim pastor of the church. "I was just the simple person who said 'yes.' "

The new shop, which will be in two small rooms, opens on to Palace Avenue and is next to the parish hall.

"I think it gives people the opportunity to find Christmas gifts and gifts for baptism," said Semon, who added that the shop, which has been operating on Sunday mornings, has already made a gift to the church of a 19th-century rock-crystal altar cross.

"I was inspired by the gift shop at the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas" to establish the Holy Faith gift shop, Bonner said. "It's something Holy Faith never had. Father (Semon) has been very supportive."

Bonner, with the help of Marilyn Whitehurst, attended gift markets in Dallas and Tucson, Ariz., looking for the appropriate gifts, and they have apparently been very successful in their choices.

"On one Sunday, we made over $2,300 in sales," Bonner said.

Prices range from a few dollars to $500 and $600 for larger pieces of art.

The store will be staffed by volunteers, meaning all of the store's proceeds will be used for the good of the church.

"We have a list of requests from the priest," Bonner said. "There are a lot of things in the church we want to help out with."

The store will be open Sundays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. For weekday hours, call 982-4447 ext. 114.

Nancy Clusiau, owner and operator of Clusiau Design, has relocated her business from her garage to a space at Ironstone Garden Studios, 901 W. San Mateo Road.

Clusiau, who creates sewn interiors, including slipcovers, bancos, curtains, cushions and bedding, has been in Santa Fe for the last 15 years. She's been sewing for 30 years.

The new location is a winner.

"With the loss of a couple of fabric stores, it became clear to me that Santa Fe needed a source for high-quality fabrics," Clusiau said in an e-mail. "I am now offering fabrics from home and abroad such as organic cottons, 100 percent recycled fabrics and UV-resistant fabrics, just to name a few."

Clusiau said she makes slipcovers the same way she would create a wedding gown or a suit. "The slipcovers fit the sofa or chair the same way a custom dress fits its owner."

For more information, call Clusiau at 466-2712 or 231-4858.
