New studio showroom to open

Hansen + Company Interiors is opening a new studio/showroom on the Aldea Plaza as of Friday. The business will share the space with John Hansen Co. Inc., a general contracting firm specializing in custom homes, remodels and commercial construction.

This move gives clients of the John Hansen Co. access to an onsite design studio when making decisions regarding finishes for their new home.

In addition to full-service residential, hospitality and commercial interior design, Julie Hansen of Hansen + Company Interiors will offer a designer gift-wrapping service for the holidays.

The studio is at 15 Via Plaza Nueva in Aldea de Santa Fe. Hours will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, or by appointment. For more information, call 473-2278.

Credit cards, college students

The major provisions of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act take effect in February, and the new rules include protections for college students and limit the way credit card companies market on campuses.

A recent survey conducted by Sallie Mae, the nation's largest college student loan company, finds 84 percent of undergraduates have at least one credit card and half of all college students have four or more credit cards. This access to credit is resulting in record-high balances among college students.

When the CARD Act legislation goes into effect Feb. 22, lenders will be prohibited from issuing credit cards to individuals under the age of 21 unless they can demonstrate the ability to make payments on their own or have a parent or guardian co-sign the application.
