The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas has announced that in 2010 it awarded $18.5 million in Affordable Housing Program grants to 79 affordable-housing projects. More than
$2.8 million of that will go to construct or improve 382 affordable-housing units across New Mexico.

The $18.5 million is the largest amount that the bank has awarded in a single year since the inception of the AHP grant, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

New Mexico will receive $2.9 million for 382 units. They are:

* NewLife Homes, Inc. received three grants of $500,000, $210,000, and $210,000, for a total of $920,000 through Bank of Albuquerque, N.A.

* The Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico received two grants of $315,000 and $120,000, totaling $435,000, through Los Alamos National Bank.

* Habitat for Humanity of New Mexico received $320,000 through Bank of Albuquerque, N.A.

* Tierra del Sol Housing Corp. received $146,000 through Pioneer Bank.

* The Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico received $480,000 through Citizens Bank of Las Cruces.

* Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity received $45,000 through Pioneer Bank.

* NMHCDC received two grants of $384,000 and $140,000, totaling $524,000, through Citizens Bank of Las Cruces.


The Santa Fe Association of Realtors will host a course designed to help Realtors and property managers learn the details of property management.

The course will take place Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the association's education center, 510 N. Guadalupe St. Nonmembers may attend the course for a fee of $90.

Course participants will learn the definitions of property management, recovery of damages, rights, obligations, remedies and more.

New Mexico Bank and Trust has purchased a vacant lot near the planned Super Walmart on the southwest side of town for a new bank branch.

The opening of the Walmart in Entrada Contenta is scheduled for late next year.

"In a few years there will be a tremendous amount of activity in the area," said Alan Austin, president of New Mexico Bank and Trust in Santa Fe, in explaining the need for the planned office.

The bank also has branches on St. Michael's Drive and Paseo de Peralta.
