There's a new coffee bar in town, and it's also Santa Fe's only Boba Tea Bar, said Shalene Dailey, who owns The Spectrum Cafe with her husband, Nathan.

"We both work here," said Shalene, who added that the couple's three kids make frequent appearances.

The business is at 1722 St. Michael's Drive, in the St. Michael's Village shopping center, near Pizzeria Espiritu and in a space last occupied by The Muffin Man.

Before opening The Spectrum, the Daileys installed wooden flooring for eight years.

"We wanted to do something we could all do together," Shalene said.

Coffee drinks at the cafe include espressos, lattes and mocha (the most popular).

The most expensive coffee is a large breve, which goes for $4.35.

"That's because it's made with pure half and half," Shalene said.

Boba Tea, better known in New York and San Francisco than in Santa Fe, is made with a green or black tea base and fruit flavoring, then served with a little bit of cream over tapioca pearls.

"It's growing in popularity," Shalene said. "It crosses all divides. Everybody from kids to people in their 80s love it."

The Spectrum Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and is closed Sunday.

Leonard Razatos, owner of the Plaza Cafe Southside, will donate a portion of his profits to La Familia Medical Center.

"Restaurants get asked for charitable donations all the time," Razatos said in a statement. "Instead of feeling like small donations are just drops in the bucket, we decided to concentrate our efforts in one area to try to make a difference."

Razatos hasn't decided what percentage he will donate but is tentatively saying it will be
1 percent of sales.

Razatos hopes he will be able to donate more if more people eat at his restaurant, in San Isidro Plaza, off Cerrillos Road.
