The Elkettes of Pojoaque Valley High School purposely wiped the slate clean after winning their fourth District 2AAA Tournament title in the past five years Saturday in Ben Luján Gymnasium.
"It's an honor and a pleasure to win a district title," Ainsworth said, "but here in Pojoaque, it's all about winning state titles. We've come up short the past two seasons. We're hoping to change that."
Pojoaque Valley's latest tournament title was a 25-15, 25-19, 25-11 sweep of the Lady Cardinals of Las Vegas Robertson.
The lone angst occurred in the second game, with the Elkettes trailing 12-11.
"I called time out and told them, 'Robertson came to play. What are we going to do?' " Ainsworth said.
What the Elkettes did was outscore the Lady Cardinals 12-6 to untie the 13-13 knot.
"We played well, again," Ainsworth said.
Dionna Montoya and Kira Trujillo finished with 12 kills apiece.
Liz Gomez had seven kills and seven block kills. Miquella Lovato had 10 digs, while Marissa Romero dished 35 assists.
"We still need to get better as we go forward," Ainsworth said. "Monday and Tuesday are going to be our two hardest practices all season."
Today, the seedings for the state volleyball tournament will be released.
Pojoaque Valley (20-1) is expected to be the top seed.
