A week after an embarrassing home loss, the St. Michael's Horsemen got back on track heading into next week's Class AAA state playoffs.

Powered by the return of their run game, the Horsemen scored four rushing touchdowns and overcame four turnovers, to win their final game in District 2AAA, a 27-7 victory over Pojoaque Valley on Saturday at Brother Abdon Field.

"It was a good game," said St. Michael's head coach Joey Fernandez. "Pojoaque, they were playing for their playoff lives and it showed. They came to play and that was good for our guys to see before the playoffs."

With the win, St. Michael's finishes the regular season 7-3 overall, 2-2 in district. Pojoaque, which this season posted the first winning season in school history, falls to 6-4, 1-3 in district.

St. Michael's got rushing touchdowns from Michael Lamb, Russell Disch, Justin Smith and George Dominguez, who was playing in his first game since breaking a collarbone Sept. 25 against Santa Fe High.

Pojoaque's lone touchdown came after Elks quarterback Mikey Garcia threw just his second interception of the season.

St. Michael's defensive back Matthew Cantu intercepted the ball at the 1-yard line before fumbling into the end zone, where Pojoaque junior Luke Salazar recovered for the fourth quarter touchdown.

"Our defense was battling," said Pojoaque head coach Quevin Redding. "I was proud of them."
