Last Saturday, the cast of Paul was at Catamount, including Kristin Wiig, Bill Hader, Simon Pegg and Joe Lo Truglio. Wiig was more than friendly, talking to locals and even offering to buy a couple a drink. With the stars were make-up artists and set people — all are working on a film about a cross-country journey that leads to an encounter with an alien.

More proof that Santa Fe is the City Different: It would be hard to find any city where one could walk into a bar and hear opera star Rod Gilfrey, his apprentice singer daughter, Carin, Natalie Dessay, her husband, Laurent Naouri ,and a passel of young singers all singing great American popular songs. Additionally, one could see Dessay turning pages for conductor Frederic Chaslin as he previewed his new opera, Wuthering Heights, for the assembled crowd. It was just another night at Vanessie's, with Doug Lawrence on the piano.

Remake report: The new Red Dawn apparently is going to be made in Detroit, and Connor Cruise, son of Tom, is slated to appear. The 1984 classic, of course, was shot in Las Vegas, N.M. This time, the Chinese will be invading the United States.
